check my config?

i have a Belkin Access Point connected to an Origo router. The laptop is networked wirelessly using an Atheros card. But everything on the laptop becomes really slow when its networked.

Are these settings on the laptop ok? (screenshot attached)

in the wireless mode, using ONLY the top 54Mps and only Preamble LONG.

this will put the router into G mode only and stop any fall-back to B mode.

ok, ive checked 54mb only and it disabled the preamble options automatically.
however, my laptop is still extremely slow when networked...as if the wireless is draining all its processing power.

any others ideas?? what other settings can i change?
