All eyes will be on Sochi over the next couple of weeks as the world’s greatest athletes compete in the 22nd Winter Olympics. We’ll no doubt be treated to some spectacular sights and sounds from Russia but have you ever wondered what sort of photography gear is required to capture those memorable moments?

Getty Images staffer Robert Cianflone recently snapped and shared the image you see above with PetaPixel. What you are seeing is the photography gear – all $425,659.59 worth – that the team took with them to cover the games. It’s all high-end equipment, most of which didn’t even exist seven years ago when they started planning their coverage.

Here’s a list of everything pictured above:

• 20 Canon 1Dx cameras
• 3 Canon 5DmkIII cameras
• 1 Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens
• 2 Canon 14mm fisheye lenses
• 2 Canon 15mm fisheye lenses
• 5 Canon 16-35mm zoom lenses
• 7 Canon 200-400mm zoom lenses
• 2 Canon 200mm f/1.8 lenses
• 2 Canon 300mm f/2.8 lenses
• 2 Canon 300mm f/4 lenses
• 2 Canon 35mm f/1.4 lenses
• 2 Canon 50mm f/1.2 lenses
• 2 Canon 400mm f/2.8 lenses
• 8 Canon 500mm f/4 lenses
• 10 Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses
• 7 Canon 8-15mm fisheye lenses
• 5 Canon 800mm f/5.6 lenses
• 2 Canon 85mm f/1.2 lenses
• And a set of Tilt Shift lenses

Opening ceremony was great. It put summer London Olympics to utter and total shame.

Too bad our lame Australian TV broadcaster chopped and changed the order and kept skipping parts..

Wow $7000 for each camera. Now that is something.
No, a huge chunk of the money is tied up in those fast, long, telephoto lenses.

Either the 400 F2.8, or 500 F4.0, you can have your choice of for about ten grand a pop.

Once upon a time, even the best SLR body was the "accessory ", as compared to that long sports glass. The high end digital bodies are closer to the prices of the lenses, but still a lot cheaper.

Even the 300 F2.8, is pushing seven grand.

(Those images aren't to scale. The 400mm is much larger, and the 500 mm (top) is gigantic

Punch up your calculator, and add up the quantity costs of just those 3 lenses....I guarantee you'll be impressed.....

Arent those optics handmade? I think that is why they are so expensive.
