Chinese smartphone maker Oppo may not carry the brand recognition of an Apple, Samsung or even Xiaomi but among tech enthusiasts, the company is known as a serious up-and-comer with an affinity for crafting incredibly thin smartphones with equally narrow bezels.

Leaked images and video of what is presumed to be Oppo’s next handset reveal they’re pushing design to the extreme with a nearly bezel-less display.

As you can see, the screen on this unnamed smartphone stretches edge-to-edge horizontally. Unlike the Sharp Aquos Crystal, however, it features full-sized top and bottom bezels which likely come in handy (no pun intended) when using the phone in landscape orientation.

GSM Arena notes that Oppo is using a new display technology that utilizes clever light diffraction to make the screen appear to extend further out than it actually does. The patent application for said technology references a 5.5-inch display which is probably what we’re seeing here.

Some suspected the images might have been a clever hoax but now that video has surfaced, it appears we are indeed looking at the real deal. Unfortunately, the footage showed little more than the initial pictures so we still have no idea what the sides and rear of the phone look like.

Late last year, Oppo’s R5 took the crown as the world’s slimmest smartphone with a thickness of just 4.85mm. Some sacrifices were made to earn that recognition, however, as the phone didn’t include a microSD card slot nor did it have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Pending lawsuit:

- Tried to swipe, finger slipped off because of the borders missing, fell over the balcony, hence the "suicide borders" case.

Very very impressive! I'm all for small bezels as long as it doesn't negatively affect the use of a case. Same with the S6 Edge.

Looks awful + I bet there will be a lot of false touches.
Dont understand this obsession about thin things, 4k and other marketing, device should be comfortable to use, offer good sustained perfomance without overheating and throttling after 5 minutes of use and offer good battery life.
