Shut down your computer properly or repair whatever shutdown issues you may be having.

Remedy: At normal operation...

Double-click My computer on the Desktop (or Start, My Computer), select drive, File, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options and check both boxes, Start.

My Computer, right-click the drive, Properties, Tools, Check Now..., Select Options and check both boxes, Start.

You may be prompted to restart Windows before it will run.
After the Windows XP restart, leave your computer alone for less than three hours depends on your hard drive. When it is done, it should stop those annoying chkdsk scan.
