Civ4 won't start after installing patch

I installed a patch for Civilization 4 to play online. Now Civ4 won't start. Please help. I don't want the save games to be erased.

I don't have this game so I can't help you with specifics but can you find the saved game files and copy them to another folder, uninstall and reinstall the game and restore the saved games?

Maybe the patch file was corrupted. Can you download it from another source and try to run it again?
