Clipboard won't clear

All of a sudden, when I copy something, whether it be an
Excel or Word file, a picture, or a bookmark, or a link out of
Putfile, the clipboard won't clear after I paste it someplace
and won't accept the next thing I want to copy.

Just started all of a sudden.

Whazzup!?

Thanks!

  1. I wouldn't expect the clipboard to "clear" after a paste (if "clear" means the clipboard object is "erased"). You should be able to copy once and then paste it many, many times is the idea.
  2. Any error message when it "doesn't accept it"? You by chance trying to copy very large objects? Maybe have a limited amount of memory at that moment? Easiest thing is reboot and see if/when problem returns.

OK, to clarify a little.

I guess before when I copied and pasted,
I could then copy something else and it
would paste correctly without rebooting.

Now when I try to copy a second item,
the first item still is what pastes - I can't
paste the second item.

And yes I do have to reboot to be able
to copy and paste another item.

Not large items - just links, bookmarks, etc,
is all I was trying to copy/paste when this
first started.

No error message, by "not accepting it"
I just meant the second item wouldn't
"take" or whatever you'd call it - it won't
paste. Just the first item is all that will
paste.

If the clipboard is full or whatever, there
must be a way of clearing it, or deleting
whatever is on there?

I've looked in help in Windows and in
Firefox and can't find anything about
the clipboard.

Thanks for any help!

From this website

  1. Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
  2. Then click on Run Icon, which will open up the Run Menu for you.
  3. Locate the white area of the screen next to the word Open: in the Run Menu.
  4. Now type in the abbreviated word Clipbrd and click on the OK button to launch the Program.
  5. Notice how the Clipboard contains a record of your recent copy and paste inputs.
  6. To empty your Clipboard, click on the word Edit located within your top tool bar area.
  7. Then click on the word Delete from the pull down menu that appears.
  8. Windows will ask you if you want to Clear the contents of the Clipboard.
  9. Click on the Yes button to allow Windows to clear the Clipboard.
  10. Notice how your former imputed information is now cleared from the Clipboard.
  11. Then close the Clipbook Viewer Window to return to your Windows session.

What operating system are you running? Are you copy/paste items that are particularly large?

A couple things tools to help you figure the problem out.

  1. Clipbook Viewer. A utility to see just what's on the clipboard. Available under several versions of Windows. If XP, do Start->Run enter clipbrd
  2. ClipBoardLocked. Some other process may be grabbing / locking the clip board without you knowing. If you are running XP, download GetOpenClipboardWindow. Run it once the problem occurs to see if the clipboard has been locked by another process.

Got thru the "clear clipboard" thing,
certainly simple enuf - THANKS!!

I'll see if the problem persists,
if so will try that other thing.

It's always simple when you know where
to look and what to do, my trouble is
always finding that!

Thanks so much!

PS - XP sp2

Sorry about that! I was fairly computer illiterate when I did lots of research then gathered parts and built this system myself a couple years ago, mostly so I could do home video onto DVDs. Learned a BUNCH off of this website, unfortunately also about security - had experienced several major melt downs incl a physically trashed hard drive, now I am at least reasonably secure.

Got it filled out.

No problem, mate ;)

It helps having the drop down thing for people's system specs because we can see your specs when we need to and don't have to keep asking what you have :)

If anyone has this problem using Firefox, I've read many solutions, none of which works well - by which I mean, quick and easy. What works best for me is to press F5 (refresh) - that solves is for me, although I sometimes say a lot of bad words.
