You're right.
I've spent a 2 hours reading posts about my problem on microsoft forums.
I even posted a question and they repeat all the stuff i tried.
And I concluded that they are more confused than I am.
I found the guys not being able to activate never mind to pass genuine and they are owners of their keys.
one of them
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/is/genuinewindowsxp/thread/a1fd7be9-abda-4c01-acba-7653e1614757
now, I acitvated windows on this comp months ago by the phone. I knew this windows primarily came with a laptop but I haven't used a laptop and haven't gone on internet for a long time. And it worked, I activated it and i thought it was it.
I really think they could have done it much easier for them and for people if they did activation process differently. If they just let you put the key and if that key has been used they could warn you this key has been used, and give you a option 'are you sure you own this key" and if you clicked yes it would ask you for your name adress phone number. If they see that you're genuine owner they could give you an option Would you like to associate this key with this machine - note that other computer running this windows will be deactivated. it would save all of us so much time.
Now I am getting angry.
I already started a post with all the swearing words on that forum but I didn't post it thinkng now I am going to waste some more time.
You say it's partially my fault.
Back then, when i bought this I didn't know as much as I do today. I knew very little. And everything was easy. I bought something for fun (laptop and comp) I got windows and my thinking was 'it is my concern what am I going to do with my stuff in my house". i can install it on 2 comps if I want. If they really wanted to spend the time they would protect any key from authorizing it 2ce.
Every time I reinstalled windows on that laptop I didn't have to enter anything. I just went authorized and genuine automatically. When i reinstalled windows on this comp I had to go on dial up and authorise it. And i never had a problem there.
My point is you can't expect who don't know about some things just to know it. Thats where you have to be clever and protect yourself from misunderstanding.
Let me get back why we here.
It seems that only option to fix this bios thing (as I read in one post, microsoft support guy says, you should change the key with 'KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe' which i alredy did and if that doesn't work you should reinstall windows using correct key),
Basically I could have find the way of de-attaching this key from my laptop (if possible) and then registering it with this comp and I didn't have to buy new windows.
two questions for now.
1. should I reinstall this windows?
2. I also want to ask you. My vista laptop is very slow. It's steady but slow, i don't think there is any malware there. I rarely go on the net with it (using wireless modem but iritates me how slow it is. What i want to ask you is : what is the logic behind "don't use registry cleaners' because I noticed this comp was running visibly faster after I ran a multiply registry cleaners. Why are they bad?
