for some reason when i type cmd in the run text box i get an error message saying it "is not a valid Win32 application" or "[it] is currently in use by another program". when i type in regedit (which i used just two days ago just fine) i also get the "currently in use by another program" message. CTRL + ALT + DLT brings up nothing. I have checked and unchecked the hide file extensions box, etc. there is no cmd.com or regedit.com file in my Win32 folder or computer. can someone please help me figure out what may be wrong?!!

Send Howard_Hopkins0 a PM and ask to have this transfered to the Security and the Web category.

He'll help.

Hi

It is highly likely that your system is infected by malware.

Important: Please read this thread HERE before you decide whether to clean or reformat your system.

Should you decide to clean your computer, please go ahead to Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and follow the steps to cleaning your computer.
Do follow all the instructions exactly.

Thereafter, please post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread.
The logs will enable us to understand more about the problems on your system.

Regards,
Your friendly Momok =)

My HJT

i chose not to reformat my computer after reading the thread you said to read. but here is my hjt log. let me know what i should do next please.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode, under your normal user name(NOT THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT). See how HERE.

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE.

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad). Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)

O4 - Global Startup: svchost.exe

O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\svchost.exe

Reboot into normal mode and rehide your protected OS files.

Now, go HERE and follow all the instructions exactly.

Post all the requested log files once you`re done.

Regards Howard :)

no cmd/reg edit/task manager

heres my combofix log and quarantine list, hjt, and avg logs. a trojan horse virus was found and i deleted it. however, i am still not able to "run" cmd or regedit. but task manager is working now:)

I have merged your new thread into this one. Please continue to post in this thread.

Your HJT log is clean.

However, you need to do the following.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 from HERE. Save it to your Desktop and extract it.

2. Download the attached avengerscript.txt and save it to your desktop

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by double clicking on its icon on your desktop.

Under "Script file to execute" choose "Load script from file".
Now click on the folder icon which will open a new window titled "open Script File"
navigate to the file you have just downloaded, click on it and press open
Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please attach the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply, as well as a fresh HJT log.

Regards Howard :)
