Comp can't find hard disk

  1. Hi all, I'm hoping I can get a clear perspective on an issue with my computer. I have a HP laptop and it got bumped into a hard surface which I think has messed it up. When I turn it on it says that it cannot find the hard disk. BIOS does load and says it cannot detect hard disk when I look for it. As a side test, I have linux on a usb flash drive that I booted and it worked fine (linux works). Is the hard drive damaged and/or lost? How can I fix it and find out what happened?

    Thank you in advance!

You will have to try and reload Windows. Doing this will tell you if the hard drive is bad or not

Does this mean that the data is lost?

Thank you so much, I'm going to try it out and see if it works. :) And about reinstalling windows...I think I'm going to eventually switch over to linux anyway (haha). I ordered the case...
