Compaq Presario 1800 Sound Problem

    I got a Compaq Presario 1800 as a hand-me-down from my friend. It has a sound problem: no sound from the laptop speakers can be heard. The headphone jack is messed up, and the O shaped plate that goes on the plug is missing. But, if I plug in headphones and point the headphone plug up, sound can be heard from the headphones. Is there any way to fix the laptop speakers?
