This problem started occuring yesterday randomly. My computer runs fine for about 10-20 minutes. Then it just lags for a bit; I will move the mouse but it wont register right away... After that it completely locks up but the monitor doesn't distort or go black at all. Everything remains on the screen but becomes inactive; I was running a windows defender scan that just stopped completely.

I am wondering what the issue is. I'm thinking RAM most likely. I do have it overclocked a little bit but I down clocked it and the issue is still occuring. Im confused because when I had problems with RAM before the system would just reboot it wouldn't lock up like it is now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

System Specs:

ASRock Dual 939 SATA II
Athlon 64 3700+ 939
1 gig (2x512) DDR 400
Geforce 6800
40GB IDE
120GB SATA II

That really sounds more like driver/software conflict to me.
Check your Event log for any errors.
look for exclamation marks in device manager.
