Computer is asymptomatic, as far as I can tell. With that said, MalWareBytes did detect the presence of malicious software. This is my home computer and I would definitely like it to be as clean as possible. Avast! is currently running, although I believe there have been AV definition lapses in the past.

6-Steps Attached. Thanks in advance!

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt"
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Code:
File::
c:\windows\system32\srvxnbdg.wvg

Folder::
c:\program files\STOPzilla!

DDS::
uInternet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:9022
uInternet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;dav.calendar.msn.com;localhost;<local>;*.local

Driver::
SRVXNBDG
STOPzilla Local Service

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\SRVXNBDG]

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Good :)

Your computer would greatly benefit from adding another 512MB of RAM.

=====================================================================

Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
During installation, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked extra "garbage" installation, like Yahoo toolbar, or others (if offered).
Uninstall all previous Java versions, through Add\Remove (Programs & Features in Vista/7).

The RAM was my next upgrade on this computer. I had to get RAM for my laptop first, as it was only sporting 256K. It's up to 1Meg now, so the desktop is next.

Before I run OTL again, I had a question about Java. I see four programs associated with Java in my Add/Remove Program window:

Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition, v1.3.1_02
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_05
Java (TM) 6 Update 21
Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

I know I just downloaded/installed the third one, but I was unsure if the other three were older versions of the third or entirely different programs. If you could answer that for me when you get the chance, I can move on to the OTL log.

Thanks again!

Thanks! Removed the three Java programs.

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_05 gave me a hard time and indicated it needed a disk to finish its process. I cancelled out and it disappeared from my list of programs.

OTL logs attached. v2.0 is from the Fix operation, v3.0 was run last.

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_05 gave me a hard time and indicated it needed a disk to finish its process
While I'm checking your logs...

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.

1. Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

2. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

3. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

  • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    [*] Archives
    [*] Mail databases
6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

OK

1) Java RA appears to have removed the files. When it completed running, I received the This Program Has Encountered a Problem And Must Be Shut Down message. I didn't report it to Microsoft and ran the program again. When it started up, it generated a log, which I have attached in case it was needed.

2) Security Check ran fine and is attached.

3) TFC ran fine,

4) Does Kaspersky not like Chrome? That is the browser that I am using and Kaspersky indicates my computer doesn't meet minimum requirements for the scanner. However, it reports that I am running Safari 533.4 instead of Chrome. I could probably locate my Internet Explorer browser and run it through that if necessary. Just let me know what to do.

Thanks!

Update Adobe Reader

You can download it from https://www.techspot.com/downloads/2083-adobe-reader-dc.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions.
Note. If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Alternatively, you can uninstall Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), download and install Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from HERE.
It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.
Note: When installing FoxitReader, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked toolbar, or other garbage.

Instead of Kaspersky...

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • IMOPRTANT! UN-check Remove found threats
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push List of found threats
  • Push Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

Unistalled Adobe and installed FoxIt

When I ran the ESET scanner, it took about an hour, but didn't give me the option of downloading a file at the end. The scanner indicated it had found no viruses.

That's fine. It won't give you any log, if nothing found.
