I have a computer I built back in 2006. It's a bit old, but still serves my daughters purposes. Anyway, not too long ago it started to randomly freeze up. It did this constantly. Somehow I got it to work for about two weeks without issue.

Unfortunately, the other day it just went black screen on me. I thought it could possibly be the video card so I put a new one in with the same result. I've checked to make sure all the hardware is seated, and all cables are plugged in.

I'm pretty sure the only two components left that could be the problem, are either the cpu or motherboard. I'm wondering if there's any other possibilities or suggestions? is it possible to narrow down which component it is without trying to acquire replacement parts for troubleshooting? It's an old system, so I'm sure I wouldn't be able to find parts anyway
