Computer programs not starting

  1. Hi there,

I am currently having trouble with my computer. About five minutes after starting it I am unable to start any programs. I've rebooted 5-6 times already and it doesn't make a difference. What can I do about this?

(BTW, I recently had Hacktool.Rootkit on here but it's been gone for about two weeks....could it still be a problem though?)

Thanks in advance for any help.

what operating system and service pack are you running? do you have any functional antivirus or otherwise protective software in action on your machine?

Get rid of Norton, they seem to be the only one revealing that rootkit.
Your PC also runs smoother with others, such as AVG and Sygate (available FREE!).

yes, avg and sygate... 'tis a sweet combo (free.grisoft.com) (http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm)

if your machine is loaded with crap, i advise you follow the numerous read-only threads here posted by rbs, as they contain useful information and procedures.
