Computer random restarts (optional BSOD)

Hi all,

Any help you can offer me on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using WindowsXP Home Ed, SP2. Once into Windows and doing my own thing, the computer will reset itself seemingly at random. Never after the same amount of time, just randomly. Initially it would restart, before I shut option off. Now I get the BSOD with:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and:

0x0000000A (0xF7DFF050, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0x8053E5E5)

Does anybody have any ideas? It just keeps happening. I'm surprised I got to type this much already without it happening again! Run memtest86+ with no issues, no spyware or viruses either. BIOS is up to date...

AMD Athlon 64 Processor
512MB RAM
GIGABYTE motherboard: K8 Triton Series - GA-K8NMF-9

thanks in advance for any advice!!

EDIT: in addition, if it does not reset in this manner, XP will occasionally hang and leave me unable to do anything, even ctrl+alt+delete

generally attributed to bad or failing ram. run memtest 86+ booted from a CD or a floppy for at least 7 passes. Any errors are bad and require ram replacement. pay attention to the error block #s, they will tell you which stick(s) have failed.

Thanks Tedstar for getting back to me so quickly.
I'd actually already run memtest, with no errors showing.

Interestingly, I must've done something, as today I have the original BSOD mentioned above, but got this one twice too:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

0x00000050 (0xBF78113B, 0x00000008, 0xBF78113B, 0x00000000)

attached some minidump files i that helps... Any other ideas?

Thanks again for your help!!
