I just bought a dvd burner and a new hard-drive I was finally happy with my system and didn't think that I needed anything else but then while I was reintalling all my programs on windows xp it shut down and wouldn't turn on. I thought that it might be the power supply so I found a spare one laying around and plugged it in and it worked. I knew that I now needed a new power supply because the one I had in it was crap so I started looking for one. Then when I was installing some more games it shut down and wouldn't start up again. I didn't want to order one online because I need my computer by thursday night so I went to best buy and bought an antec 350 watt power supply now I know that antec is a good company so I thought that all my problems were solved but when I installed it my compter wouldn't boot up all the way so I unplugged my cd drive and it did, then I started to play music and it shut down. I checked to see if it would start up again and it did but then shut down very fast. Now I am very afraid to turn it on again because I don't want to wreck my computer.

this is the first power supply

thanks for taking the time to read this and please help me get this running by thursday.

depending on the cpu and motherboard and video card you got going in there 350 watts isnt much. Your gonna have to take back the 350 and get at least a 400. The power thing you describe sounds alot what like happend to me. I needed more power. Get at least a 400 if that doesnt help then ur comp is too hot and it needs more fans. Im pretty sure thats ur problem

Well I don't think that I need more power I used a power supply calculator and it said I just needed 2. I had an extra my ied (i think that is what it is called).plugged into the cd drive and it didn't have any power so I started my computer up and worked fine unitil I started playing age of empires III and it shut down in the middle of it. It might be that is is too hot what is a motherboard temp soppose to be at. I think my cpu temp is fine though.

This link to the power supply calculator that I used

Power supply calculator aside, the fact that you have to unplug components to get enough juice to operate and that high games shut you down, says you might not have enough power right there.

If it was a heat only issue, why would you have to unplug the CD drive to operate? That shouldn't matter one way or the other.
