Computer won't get into windows at startup

I have a computer that will start up through the post section, gets to the boot from cd prompt, and then stops and won't go any farther. I try putting the windows xp disk in, it reads the line, set up is inspecting your hardware configuation... then it goes to a gray screen and nothing else happens. Is it a problem with the hard drive, hardware or what do I try now?

It is a ECS motherboard
amd 1000 processor

Do you hear the hard drive spinning at all? If not the the hard drive is probably shot. Check all connections and fire it up and see if you hear it spinning.
