  1. Hello!

Im having hard time figuring out whats the difference between firewall programs and anti-spyware programs (the preventitive ones, not the scanners). Are they both the same or are they different?

    i appreciate the help.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I assume by preventative anti-spyware you mean Spybot and such? Or are you talking about something far more advanced?

A firewall is basically a gatekeeper for your computer. It allows or disallows various types of data into and out from your machine.

Preventitive anti-spyware like spybot immunisation dosn't stop the traffc getting onto your machine, but stops it from installing once it gets there.

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

A firewall is there to prevent unauthorised persons, or programmes etc from accessing your computer via the internet.

The preventative spyware programmes, I.E Spyware Blaster etc. Typically block certain cookies, and known bad internet urls etc.
