Controller card Firewire questions...

  1. Hey everyone, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, but since I have no idea what one is, I have no idea where this question really belongs.

I know what a controller card is, and no idea of what a firewire is.

I've not started building my system yet, but I just got, what I believe to be, the final piece yesterday. I'm guessing you'll need to know what I have, in order to tell me if I need one or both, so here goes:

    AMD AthlonXP 3200+ w/ 400FSB
    Abit NF7-S v2.0
    Thermaltake Volcano 11+ HSF
512mb RAM from Crucial (1 Stick for now)
    Hitachi 80GB SATA HD w/ 7200RPM 8MB cache
    ATI Radeon 9550 128MB AGP 8x/4x
    Lite-On 52X32X52 +16X CD RW/DVD ROM
    Standard Floppy Drive

Near as I can tell, a controller card will let me use a SATA drive w/ my MoBo. But do I still need one if the MoBo is already able to accommodate a SATA drive?
I'm guessing that there are different controller cards and they work like adapters for components that would not usually work together... or something.

And I have no foggy idea what Firewire means/is.

    Thanks in advance,

If you don't plan on hooking a camcorder up to that PC, you won't need firewire either.
