Could not load Open GL subsytem

Well after reading hundreds of posts and FAQ's around then net on how to fix this poroblem, I almost gave up. What I have discovered is that there sems to be about 4 or 5 general solutions which actually work for people. None however have worked for me. Then I came across this post today after venturing to the 6th page of results from a google search. What I read interested me. Someone mentioned that MS NetMeeting installs a messed vga driver when 'remote desktop' is running. Well I dont run remote dsktop but I do run netmeeting in the background. Imagine my suprise when I shut down netmeeting and the games ran successfully (namel Jedi Kinght 2, Quake 3, Return to Wolfenstein etc). I have formatted my drive and reinstalled windows many times, I have reinstalled drivers, vid card, games, direct x, and anything that could possibly have anything to do with the game video. I cannot believe it was netmeeting. Anyways Im going to go smoke a spliff and try and spread my soultion arounda few more boards in the hopes that I can save someone else from going through what I have gone through.
Peace.

Thanks for bringing your solution to the forums.:)

I'm gonna direct a few threads on the subject to this one.

open gl subsystem

i have a mac and im trying to play enemy territory on virtual pc and it says open gl subsytem and i have the highest video driver or watever and i dont have remote desktop or netmeeting or whatever he said. please help .

 Hello and Welcom to TechSpot

Nice to see you've used the search function, as we've got plenty of old helpful threads here :)

It's not too many mac users here, but we might just be able to help you anway.
But to do that we're going to need more information about your computer.

What are the specs of your mac (graphics card, what OS are you using), and what drivers do you use (which version and are they original or made by an enthusiast)?

Armed with this info we'll do our best to find a solution to your problem.

video driver s3 trio

I'm afraid that we've found the problem...

The S3 trio graphics card is very old, and doesn't really have enough power to run any of todays games...

Add to that that some of them didn't even support OpenGL in the hardware, chances are you can try to load the OpenGL subsystem until your face turn blue without any luck...

But all is not lost... You could be able to upgrade that g4 mac of your with a new videocard, which should allow you to play ET and many other newer games...

Check with a mac store to find out if it is possible to upgrade your graphics card, and ask them what they recommend...
But if they advice you to buy the latest and greatest graphics card, I'd decline, since it's much more than you need, and costs x times more than a nice vid.card from around 2000-2001...

Hope this helps :)

dont have a clue what that means and ive installed the latest drivers for my nvidia ti440 and nothings getting better!

Absolutely not going to happen! You will not get that to run in Virtual PC. Your best bet is to run the mac version of whatever Quake 3 based game you want. Most of them have been ported over.
