Counter-Strike Source FPS issues

  1. Hi,

    I've been playing CS for about 2 years now with little or no issues. My system is as follows:

    Pentium 4 - 3.0
    1 GB of RAM
    650 Watt Power Supply
    Windows XP Home
    ATI Radeon X1900 XT - 512 memort
    Monitor = 22'' widescreen samsung

    I've always had great FPS during the game but recently it's running poorly. If there's over 10 people in the server my fps drops to about 15 and makes it hard for me to play. Is this all because I haven't upgraded to a newer processor and added more RAM? My video card was almost 400.00 bucks and i'm pretty sure it should be plenty sufficient. have nothing extra running on my machine for I have everything shut off in msconfig. All my PC settings are adjusted for best performance.

    Also, I try and set my desktop resolution (1280 x 1024) to the same res as the game i'm playing. Does this have any effect on my game playing?

    Your resolution does make a difference to frame rates. The bigger it is, the extra work it is for your GPU so you will get lower FPS.
