COUNTERSTRIKE SOURCE - Really strange problem

Before the summer I could play it no problems what so ever. I leave for 3-4 months and it won't start . . . I can't even get into the counterstrike menu. I can play older halflife games like team fortress classic. but when I try to open CSS the steam tray icon shows that it's working and the little window that says "preparing to play counterstrike" comes up, then it dissapears like it's going to start but nothing happens!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I even formatted my hd reintalled everything and it still won't work.

Okay, well...
There has been many many people that have been having that problem since the 23/9 update, but there are a lot of things you could try.
For one, have you tried the other source games? 'Cause if one works, you can apparently take the hl2.exe from that game and copy to every one that doesn't work.
Secondly, you can try reinstalling Steam and its .gcf files form scratch. Worked for my friend.
