  1. Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums so please bare with me.
Anyway I currently have a Dell Dimension 3000. I am looking to upgrade my current proc (Pentium 4 HTT) to a Pentium D 840 model.

The chipset I have is an Intel 865GV with socket LGA 775.
I guess my question is, will this work?
I heard I may have an issue because my mobo does not have a voltage regulator...

According to Dell's website, that model will support the following CPU's:

    • Intel® Pentium® 4 processor that runs at 2.8 GHz , 3.0 GHz, and 3.2 GHZ internally and 800 MHz externally with Hyper-Threading Technology
    • Intel Pentium 4 processor that runs at 2.8 GHz internally and 533 MHz externally
    • Intel Celeron® D processor 320, 325, 330, 335, and 340

..My guess would be that no, it won't work.
