Hello, I recently found out that ctfmon is a bad .exe program to have running on your computer. I was wondering however if I could get some advice as to what to do with it. Obviously the best idea is to just find the source of the .exe program and delete it and/or run Anti-Virus software to find it. However, my Anti-Virus software never displays that ctfmon.exe is a bad .exe program to have running and never ask me if I would like to delete it.

Here is my question. Should I delete the .exe program that I found in the WINDOWS folder or just leave it be? My AVG Anti-Virus software has never reported that it's been a bad program to have on my computer nor any other security software that I have. I also do not want to go deleting stuff in my WINDOWS folder that I'm not sure rather to delete or not delete. Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

I have a question:

1. Are you having any issues like crashes, freezes, programs not running, boot-up and shut-down problems, internet slow downs, etc. ? If not I would say this is not a virus but part of your Windows OS.

2. If you do suspect it is an infection then I would suggest running two free online scanners such as Kaspersky and Trendmicro and see if they detect and if they can delete.

Hello, no nothing really abnormal, just programs crashing like they do under normal circumstances. I also did a recent reformat of my HDD and installed Windows XP on it, so I'm guessing you were right about it being apart of Windows, then. Thank-you for the links; I will check them out.
