Dell 1907FP issue

I have a new Dell 1907Flat panel monitor. I use an XFX Geforce 6600 video card. This isn't a gaming question but strictly an issue with the monitor. I downloaded the latest nvidia drivers today. My system boots fine with the monitor on "analog" but doesn't seem to paint the screen on "digital".
Once I get booted on analog, I can change screens to digital and the background is there but nothing else ,... no icons and any keyboard activity goes to the analog session eben if I do it from the digital screen.
Probably something really stupid .... but I would appreciate any ideas/s****tions to get it to display correctly in digital mode.

Do you have both analog and digital cables plugged in to one computer?

Yes... both are plugged into the same computer.

try removing one of the cables, the system is probably getting confused with two outputs to the same screen.

I have unplugged the blue VGA cable and set the monitor to Digital but it will not boot in that mode. It only boots in VGA ...
I'm perplexed ... again, if I boot VGA, I can then set the monitor to digital but I only see the background....
