Dell Inspiron 0x00000024 bluescreen

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 that has recently died on me. I get a blue screen on start-up with a 0x00000024 which I can't get past so have been unable to run chkdsk. I have managed to get hold of an XP installation disk but when I try to start from the disk it doesn't work as the disk is not being read properly. When I ran the Dell diagnostic routine it returned an 0f00 286e error which I believe means that the CD driver is not working. Interestingly nothing was returned regarding the HDD. Is it possible that the two are related as I don't want to invest in a new CD driver if the disk is corrupted and irrepairable? Thanks

Fix found

I don't know whether it was coincidence or the two were related but I replaced my CD/DVD drive, booted from an XP installation disk and ran chkdsk /r. All problems have been resolved and my laptop lives again.
