Dell inspiron 2200 password authentication error

i just bought a dell inspiron 2200 off ebay for my husband because he is going out of town for a job...but anyways when i turned it on it comes up with a grey and white screen asking me for a system or administration password... i called dell and they are telling me they can not do anything unless i pay them because of warrenty is not on the laptop
if ANYONE can please help me....i would greatly apprieciate it....

might just work if its a default password that came with the computer.

other people might know other defaults which i cant think of.

might seem silly but have you tried not entering anything and just pressing ok, as that has happened to me before, it asks for password but you dont need to enter anything.
