  1. If you're a graphics professional or just someone who fancies the finer things in life, Dell has whipped up a new display you might be interested in. The 27-inch UltraSharp U2711 has an IPS panel similar to the one found in Apple's 27-inch iMac -- except Dell's uses CCFL backlighting and covers over 100% of the color gamut, whereas Apple's relies on LED backlighting and displays 72% of the color gamut.

This does seem a bit pricey for a CCFL based panel. I think that HP still offers a couple of IPS panel monitors also, albeit they are smaller than this.

Newegg is offering this 30" Samsung display http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduct.aspx?Item=N82E16824001098 for about 13 hundred. Not sure of which panel tech is involved, but, it's at least C-PVA or better.

That is a lot of screen real estate. My 1920x1080 monitor combined with a 15" is even starting to feel really small for photo editing and the likes, so a monitor like this would be amazing. I can't believed I used to rely solely on a 15", 1024x768 monitor.

One small note, the link to the gives a prices of 1,999, which should actually be 1,099.

Thanks for the correction Techno. I published the post with a price of $1,050 based on another site's article. After seeing Dell's listed price I rushed to change it and made a typo.

Haha, I know how you feel. I was using a 15-inch viewable CRT with a resolution of 1024x768 only a year ago.
