I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop and recently installed XP Pro with SP2.
The Device Manager "Other Devices" shows crucial drivers are missing. They are: -

    Ethernet Controller
    PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_165D&SUBSYS_865D1028&REV_01\4&39A85202&0&00F0

    Multimedia Audio Controller
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_011D1028&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&FD

    Network Controller
    PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_00011028&REV_02\4&39A85202&0&18F0

    O2Micro SmartCardBus_Reader
    PCMCIA\O2MICRO-SMARTCARDBUS_READER-2E10\1

    PCI Modem
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C6&SUBSYS_542214F1&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&FE

    Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C66&SUBSYS_011D1028&REV_02\4&1BFA44D4&0&0008

I have used a 2nd laptop to look at the Dell site and agree with LookingAround comment to LawiO on 16th May 2012 regarding too much choice (she had a D800 and you gave links for the two main drivers).
I would appreciate similar help to sort my problem.

You should also upgrade to SP3 (it includes a driver needed for HD audio to work). Or I can give you the M$ fix to manually add the Audio bus controller driver to SP2.

    Install
    • Chipset - Intel Driver
    • Network - Broadcom Driver
    Then go HERE.
Click the Analyze for Updates button. See if Dell finds the other drivers for you. If not, post back and let me know
