Dell xps 400 windows xp

I'm having issues with my computer when I boot it up it gives me 2 options hit f2 or f12 when I do hit the button they don't go to them and I KNOW my keyboard works perfectly fine but that's not the problem. The problem is there is a system password which I don't know what is and when I TRY to type a password in, it does not want to type ANYTHING in... Does any1 have solution to my problem? Please help me thanks!

The boot hard drive is probably failing or the motherboards bios is corrupt
