Desperate Student - IBM ThinkPad startup

I am new to this site. I am a college student in need of help - fast. My IBM ThinkPad will not turn on. The battery indicator either flashes orange or remains green, but the computer does not power on when I press the on/off button.

The power source was checked, as well as the adaptor, and everything is okay. Any ideas?

Try removing the battery and turning on the machine with only the power supply connected.
