Dial-up connection problems

  1. I have a dial up connection at my house, now i have been useing it for time time but for about 3 weeks now i can't get online every time i dial in i get a message saying no dial tone. Can anyone help me out. Thanks

    "no dial tone" is pretty self-explanatory, no?

    Do you get an immediate dialtone when you pick up the phone yourself?

    You can tell the computer not to wait for a dialtone. Be sure to add some delay before the dialled number in that case though. (Put a few commas in front of the number a la ",,,123456")

    Make sure call waiting is disabled and you have the proper drives for your modem.

    Make sure it is properly plugged in. If possible try another lead to make sure the original has not been damaged.
