Digital Camera Lens Frozen

I have a Sony DSC-W7 camera which we have extensively used. As of yesterday, we pushed the zoom controls and the lenses started its refocusing before it froze. The camera indicated to turn the power off and on to re-intialize, but we have had no luck. Tried different batteries and connecting it to the computer, but with no success. Has anyone else had a similar problem with the lense not moving and not letting pictures be taken?

That really sounds like a camera fault to me.

If the camera is still under warranty, I suggest you contact your vendor.

If it`s not under warranty, then your need to weigh up the cost of repair vs the cost of a new camera.

There is an electric motor and associated circuitry that drive the lens... As Howard says, find out how much it would cost to have it repaired and decide if it is better to replace...
