    Direct X version

Do you mean Graphics Card (plug and Play)?
Use the latest dx version at Microsoft.com.
it's the software that require a certain version
    or newer.
EG : If it comes with DX8 or older don't install it.
    It means DX8 or newer.

Just use the latest Dirext X at Microsoft,9.0c,
no matter what video is involved.
Don't use a sotwares older DX install.Just install the software.
Do a DXdiag test after installing video devices.
