I just began to play sims2 but the following error message had occured when i tried to load the game. the problem is that I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH IT! please help me with this problem. Thanks.

Error message: Failed to intialize Direct3D. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c has been installed on this system. The application will now terminate.

I thought that the reason may be the graphics card so here's info about it.
    Name: Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
Chip Type: Intel (R) 82845G/GL Chip
    Main Driver:ialmrnt5.dll

U do not have a standalone graphics card which is likely the source of ur problem. Ur trying to run the game on a motherboard-integrated video card. I'd strongly suggest trying to get a new video card. It would help if u could post ur complete system specs(motherboard name etc) and a budget. Use Everest Home Edition to get ur system specs(google for it).

could anybody tell me how to install directx 9.0c with my ATI Radeon 9550?I've installed it many times, and all failed. It still says Directx9.0b in the diagnosis. Without it, I can't plat The Sims 2!

    Hallo,
    Same as everyone else,
Attempting to run sims 2, recieving error stating my video card isn't 9.0c compatible.

    Specs:
    Radeon 9800 XT video card,
    AMD 3000+ 2.4ghz processor,
    2 sticks of 512 corsair pc3200 memory
120gig HD with enough freespace to install and run the game.

I read most of the posts and attempted everything stated.
I updated my drivers today for the video card, I ran the directx update, today
i downloaded the sims patch and ran that.
i've reinstalled the game a few times, still nothing.
I even ran the self-checker that comes with the game, and it says that I pass all the requirements.

i'm at a stand still and am forced to play the original, sadface
    Any ideas?
If you have a few moments to spare over AIM that'd be great, my sn is ebolaza1re

Thanks for your time and consideration,
    ~Michael Walter

    ????

I bought the Sims 2 game and I did the instructions where you put a space and then -w after the quotations in the property area. it worked, but my sims 2 game isn't the best as i would like it to. Is their a graphic card I have to purchase in order to make the graphics run better? In the game it seems like my people look more robotic then lifelike because you can see the pixels in them and they move like robots. Please help me!

If ur using an integrated card, then u do have to use a standalone video card for the game to run reasonably well. A Geforce 6600 GT would be best, according to GameSpot's Sims 2 Tech Guide.

Can you post your system specs, so we can recommend something to you?

Nope, that's why I had to upgrade to a whole new computer! My old computer couldn't accept the new video cards, and only had an Intel 82810E graphics adapter, which is useless. Although, if you have a computer above 2 ghz (which is unlikely for a computer 2 1/2 years old, you could run it, but the graphics would be terrible, and you would have a low frame rate).

    Help!

so ive read everything and no one seems to have the computer i have lol. sadly...anyway, My husband has tried for 3 hours to make the sims 2 work, and it just doesnt want to seem to work, we've tried everything, directx, a drive that was connected with it and many other solutions and it just wont work! We have an EMachine computer, and its worked with other games, so it cant be that old, and my old computer was an IBM and it played the old sims game *sims 1* and that was a pretty old computer too, is there anyway that someone can help me? im a big sims fan..so you can understand my dissapointment, lol

    Hi Trisha,
Sims 2 is dramatically different from Sims1 as it's the first "truly" 3D version of the Sims. Sims 1 would work on just about any videocard, whereas Sims 2 requires a more modern, true-3D card with a 3d graphics processor on-board.

Most Emachines or Dell computers do not have the proper kind of videocard. They have some 3d capabilities, but not the extra things more modern 3d games require- mainly Transform and Lighting engine (which is a new kind of 3d chip that calculates shading, lighting and moves points around in 3d for games).

If your EMachines doesn't have a true 3D card (like many EMachines), you'll either need a new computer or have to add a new 3d card. If you know the make/model of your EMachines, we can look it up for you and see: a) what videocard it has, and b) what upgrade options exist cheaply for possibly playing the Sims 2.

Chances are a cheap card that can be easily installed can be added for simply playing Sims 2.

Okay thank you for replying btw:-D
Is there anyway to know if my computer can handle sims 2 or get a videocard?
If so where do you buy them? lol

Look around the case for a product identification. EMachines usually have a model number somewhere, sometimes on a sticker on the back or placard near the front/bottom. It'll be something like "T6294" or "W2395" etc.etc.

From this model number, we can look-up what kind of EMachines computer you have. :)
