I'm having a problem on one of our spare computers which seems to revolve around DirectX. I've reformatted twice to no avail but have also updated the DirectX to the latest build downloaded from Microsoft or from the game DVD's.
The strange thing is that KOTOR 2 works fine and I'm guessing most other older games will too.
WoW :- "World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration. Please make sure DirectX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up-to-date."
CoH :- "Failed to set a working mode for the rendering device. This could be due to having an old version of DirectX installed."
Running Direct3D Tests :- "Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)"
Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
ASUS A7N8X-X
ATI X800 (8.1 Catalyst)
1Gb RAM
Windows XP Professional SP2
Thanks in advance!
