Disconnects from internet (at least once a day)

Hello Everyone,

So I got a computer at work that seems to disconnect itself at least once every 24 hours and will not allow me to reconnect unless I type in a few commands in the command prompt ('netsh winsock reset') , run a System Mechanic full scan and then restart the computer (most times the computer gets stuck in limbo on the restart and I have to force power it off by holding the power button). Not sure what actually helps in that string of processes that I do, but it seems to solve the problem for a day. Also this computer is connected to the network via ethernet cable and on our network only one computer has this problem. I am not sure what is wrong or what I should do? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advanced!

Once a day? - - that implies the issue is with the ISP release/renew of your tcp lease.
get a command prompt and enter
  • ispconfig /all >myTCP.txt
open myTCP.txt and then copy the content and paste back as your reply ...

Thank you for the quick response! Yeah it usually cuts out between 12-24 hours. Its very odd it first starts out where I cannot load any websites except my email and a google search. Then not long after I cant do that and get disconnected from the shared drives.

What version of windows is this?
Are you at home on your own ISP connection or are you connected within some business it-structure?

I see
  • IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
  • System Quarantine State . . . . . : Not Restricted
and the IP Routing is usually NO - - are you using a VPN?

and I've NEVER seen anything like System Quarantine State

[edit]

OK, SQS is from the Network Access Protection feature but this is inappropriate at home and should be used within a business it-structure where the Admin sets the policies

I am running windows 8 and connected at a business. Can I turn IP routing to no? I am not using a VPN. In the office my computer is the only one affected by this problem. Could there be something wrong with the SQS? I could get a windows IP config list from another computer for comparison?

I would talk to the Network Admin on your problem. I do not recommend you alter anything until you do.

I work for a small business, we don't really have a Network Admin. I got a list from another computer. Am I out of luck or is there still some hope? Thank you for all you have done thus far!

I am MOST hesitant to alter systems in a business environment as I can't verify why you should or should not have ANY specific setting.

Sorry, but it violates my ethics.

You can run this progress where you can force the system to uninstall the WiFi driver but do not delete it. Reboot the system and that forces Windows (all versions) to re-install the driver thus you can do the rest of that. Power cycle your router or WiFi access points. These tend to fail after so many years of operation. Power cycle helps if WiFi has issues if that doesn't do it then you might need to invest in newer equipment.
