display problem

  1. I want to install a internal cdrw drive but I am hesitant to do anything. I don't want to touch any cables or open the case because....Once in a while, my pc boots ok(windows 98se) but the monitor screen shows nothing.
    I see the hard drive light working and I can hear the boot process but the monitor screen is blank.
    Last time this happened I unplugged it from the pc then plugged it in again then it was ok.

    What could be causing this? Steve M.
