    Why don't you just update anyway, I'm sure you'll have to.

    Guess maybe you should find that CD key first though before going to all that trouble.

    Well you don't have to have the Steam beta or anything to play CS online.

    But yes you have to update all the way as 99%of the CS servers use version 1.5. Also make sure to update Halflife to like 1.0.0.8 or whatever the latest vversion is.
