    Some vcards have no probe.

I'm not familiar enough with the nVidia's to know where the 6800 stands, but I know that ATI didn't start adding temperature probes to their cards until the 9800 XT (I have the 9800 Pro, the last with no probe).

If your card has no temp probe under the gpu, nothing can tell you its temp.

The 6800 GT does have temp monitoring. You can look in the nVidia control panel and read it.

Motherboard Monitor is one of em, it might not be what he's using but hey, I'll play the guessing game.

    ANYWAY.....

RivaTuner will do that for you and more (as long as you have an Nvidia card). You can monitor the graphics memory and processor clock speeds, you can overclock your gfx card, customize DirectX, OpenGL and more.
