I can access the bios ,and I have no password problems; what I need is to get rid of a screen that appears before post.Maybe I,m making no sense, please forgive me is that is the case.Thank you very much for your time.

The laptop is a dell latitude d510.I bought it to a friend. It has windows
    xp home ed.
  4. mscrx Newcomer, in training

okay, and what screen do you want to have removed?
  5. alexdragonking Newcomer, in training

    splash screen

The first screen that appears before post.
  6. mscrx Newcomer, in training

yes, thats what you already said. but what does that screen show? is it the screen with the dell logo?
  7. alexdragonking Newcomer, in training

    dragonking here

    Yes,it is.

you can have a look at the bios settings but I am pretty sure the disable post screen option was only available for dell desktop models.
well, look for "post screen" or something like that in the bios settings. thats your only chance...

    Dragonking once more

Thank you very much for your help and your time. One last question
Would shorting the eeprom eliminate the screen or any other screen?
  10. mscrx Newcomer, in training

nope, shorting will not remove anything but the password(s).
there are procedures to change the logo but thats way too complicated and requires alot of knowledge and some 'special' tools.
so leave the screen as it is because it does no harm!
