"drive not formatted" error

the computer froze and i restarted then all of a sudden the computer says that my slave drive is not formatted.
it was working fine before but now i cant access any files
if i format it again will i loose all the data?

also it says that the drive is only 1.96gigs when it used to be fat32 20gigs

i turned the comp off for a while and now it works
