A lot of different companies sell this app.I am looking for one that does multiple computers and doesn't have a yearly subscription fee!--If such a thing exists!
" Driver Detective" listed a whack of outdated drivers on my rig--and my manual attempt at addressing this fell short!!
Any suggestions on a good app to cover this?

Hi Harry

When it comes to hardware drivers (sound, video, webcams, etc)
I am of the opinion "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Not sure of any system for automagically updating them,
(besides DD, which I do not trust. Others may think this harsh, but I see them as "Rogue").

If you really wish to update drivers...
I would not recommend using the MS Updates for Hardware.
Sometimes the "update" they recommend can cause your hardware to stop functioning altogether. Sorry... just reporting my experience here.
For driver updates for your hardware...
For Sound, Video etc that is "On-Board", use the updates offered by the maker of your Motherboard.
Otherwise, go to the maker of your add-in.

On the other hand,
Secunia PSI can help you find end of life, and un-updated programs that are on your system.
I like it in some respects. (Some issues, it can automatically fix for you!)

1. What I do not like about it is that it can be finicky.
I have found the system to hang (lock up, or bog down terribly)
If I try to do other things while Secunia is working.

2. After updates are done, I recommend uninstalling again. You can always reinstall later.
BUT again... not straight forward. On three different systems now, I have found it necessary to go into safe-mode in order to uninstall.

Even so... despite these caveats, I think it is worth a look.

HTH.
