    Hello

I am fixing a friends laptop it is a Dell Inspiron e1505 (6400)

He had big time registry corruption and had to do a total reformat because he did not have his disks so he bought a copy of XP Pro.

Well I loaded the OS just fine and now it is time to install drivers. But....

I cant find any that work right. Of course I have looked all over Dells driver page but the ones I get from there install and magically dont do anything. No sound, no ethernet etc.

    What do I do???

    Thanks,
    Sean

I think you have to install the mobo drivers if it needs them, before any other drivers.

Is this one of those sold by GVC on TV?
You can look for drivers at www.dell.com where they provide 54 different drivers for that model, also known as the Inspiron 6400.
Two of the driver sets are for the chipset for the motherboard.
If this set of drivers does not work, and you do not have a Dell Service Tag, you may have one of the specially marketed TV units that does not come with standard Dell support.

If you can't find the Dell Service Tag externally, you might find it in the BIOS. I know for a fact one of my old Dells has the service tag number in the BIOS. Some, if not all, keep the tag number there. Dell BIOS's are relatively spartan so it shouldn't be too hard to locate if it's there.
