are the amd dual cores only going to be opterons? and whats better, opteron or the 64

No. First amd intros. opteron dual cores, then after midyear, the 939 desktop athlon 64 x2's (think that's their name) are released. The amd dual core beats intels offering in the tests so far of "samples".
