3D Realms and developer Interceptor have released the E3 2015 trailer for Bombshell, the game that originally started out as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction but had all references to him removed after a lawsuit from Gearbox Software, the franchise's current owner.

Gearbox took over the long-running Duke Nukem Forever project in 2010, after publisher Take-Two Interactive sued 3D Realms over their failure to finish the game, which at the time had been in development for 14 years. Even though part of Gearbox's deal to complete Duke Nukem Forever included acquiring the IP, 3D Realms and Interceptor entertainment revealed they were working on Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction in February 2014.

A new lawsuit ensued and following its settlement just over a month ago, Gearbox retained ownership and control of the Duke Nukem intellectual property, while the entire Mass Destruction project had to be reworked as Bombshell.

The action role-playing game retains the isometric view of Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, but now features a female protagonist: bomb technician turned mercenary Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison. She sports a mechanical arm which players can configure in various ways through the game’s techtree.

Bombshell will be released later this year for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The game will be playable for the first time at Quakecon in July.

I just hope that bomb technician turned mercenary Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison retains the wry, smart-*ss dialogue that Duke entertained us with.

Pass. This style of gameplay or isometric is too dated to keep bringing back, it was cool when it brought high resolution 2D textures to games back in the 90s, now it's just a waste of hardware power. It's acceptable as a $10-20 Indie title, maybe on mobile, arcade/mini game, but as a Full Retail $60, no freakin' way.

And wow what a fail in regards to Gearbox retaining the IP and forcing 3D Realms to change the title... Just let Duke die already, no one will miss him at this point in his recently laughable career.

Meh. From the trailer, it would appear 3D Realms doesn't understand what makes Duke Nukem appealing. Copy-pasting the DN brand onto a new character simply doesn't do it. Duke was appealing because of his unrestrained masculinity. You can't convey that with a chick, as it comes off wrong.

More importantly, as others have pointed out, the game just doesn't look interesting. If you're going to make an isometric shooter, you have to be a little more creative than explosions and dismemberments.

Graphics looks fresh off the shelf from 1996. The catch phrases are also from the same era by the sounds of it.

PASS.

You mean the vulgar language that is plaguing all our games and movies for the last decade?

RIP Duke, you became a political talking point in the 90s and the republicans have had you in their cross hairs ever since. Your come back wasn't meant to be.

I liked the new game, multiplayer was a blast. To bad all those pirate bay baddies thumbed you downed without playing multi.

Not to mention all the reviewers who got their panties entangled because you dissed their golden child halo\modern.

WHAT THE HELL...another over the shoulder badly ported to PC game oh joy, be nice to see a first person shooter with "In game saving" not save "POINTS" that's playable without a controller.
I had high hopes for diablo 3 but, NOOoooo "steam account" or you can't play butt holes!!
