Dumb hard disk or is it me

dumb hard disk or is it me...plz help...URGENT

my problem is dat im not able to boot my pc using any boot cd(i put to boot from cd in BIOS) if i put my 250gb sata seagate drive as my 1st drive(primary master).

the screen shows "Press any key to boot from CD...", wen i press any key the screen stays blank and it freeze(gets stuck....)

but if put this drive as second drive and put my other drive(80gb sata maxtor) as my first drive, it works fine..

the hard drive is detected in BIOS.

my pc config is P4 3.06GHz with HT, 1.7gb RAM, intel 915gvwk motherboard.

cud any1 plz giv a solution for this

"Any boot CD"? It looks like you only bothered to try Windows.

Are you sure your keyboard is working at the time of the prompt?

i cant boot from Windows boot cd , from ubuntu nor fedora boot cd. yes the keyboard was workin and im sure about it.

Well, Fedora or Ubuntu boot CDs do not ask you to "press any key". What happens when you try these?

Have you checked that the master/slave jumpers on all the drives are set OK
What happens if you set them to CS (cable select)?
