uh.... I got a virus on my computer and it toasted my data and I don't use anti-virus software.....

um I let my kid play games on my computer while eating an ice cream cone and now the keys are all sticky

I installed a new motherboard without grounding myself and I saw a spark hit the motherboard, now it won't work

my spouse forced a floppy disk into the zip drive and now it's stuck

I was using my laptop while on the toilet and it slipped and fell in and got wet, now it won't work

I was surfing porn and downloaded a trojan and now all my files are corrupted

I use instant messanging software and can't understand why I have viruses

I posted my email address on a public forum and now I am inundated with spam

I loaded windows XP on my ancient computer with 256mb of memory and can't understand why it's slow.

    I use windows ME

I took my hard disk out from another computer and installed it in my new computer and I can't understand why it won't work

Just a few by the wayside comments on a couple of those...

Change that to p2p and I agree wholeheartedly :D

I've done this a few times with reasonable results.

I did this successfully, purely by chance, two days ago. an install from a 1.7 celeron with 512 ram, 1 cd drive, geforece4 graphics, and 10gig hdd, went into a 1.2 athlon with 256 of ram with a 40gig slave hdd, a dvd rom, cdrw, and geforce 2 agp. suprisingly it worked without repair.

Why not add to your list of dumb stuff and dumb people,

I had a hard disk memory problem, which I fixed so well that now I have no sound . . ."No Audio Device" it keeps spelling out to me. At least everything else now works fine, and I can always sing and talk to myself, or even whistle, while I try and work out where it has gone, 'cause it was there before.

Well nothing beats trying to shove an AGP graphics card in a PCI-E slot. And calling technical support. And paying alot in call out charges. No that wasnt me, honest...

I paid $1,800 for a Macintosh, only to find out it has an Intel chip in it.

(Note: This is a hypothetical situation.)

I've NEVER paid money for tech support over the phone. That's a pure money pit and a scam. They'll keep you on hold forever and ultimately will tell you to mail the faulty component back in.

Heck, why pay when we have fine gentlemen and ladies here willing to help here at techspot for free!

I was trying to pull a AGP Card out of the socket port and ripped a heatsink off, now it won't work and I'm back to onboard crappy graphics and my games won't work lol

    now that's killer

Why won't my computer work without the cpu fan ???

(aw you guys got all the good one like the the floppy into a zip drive not far)

I can understand buying non mainstream computers. Heck, I was an extreme Atari 8bit enthusiast back in the day. In fact, I'm trying to rebuild a system, but I am finding certain parts extremely hard to come by.

Now this isn't dumb, I just would not ever had even tried to do it , thinking it was not possible!!! At least not without some significant, system ,driver etc ,changes.

Hehe. I was pretty impressed myself. lol

You've gotta love it when things go better than expected, and it just goes to show that sometimes it's best just to take a chance if it's not going to do any damage :) For the sake of 5 minutes that could potentially have been wasted, I probably saved myself at least an hours work. (well, make that two, because the install was almost fully updated before I changed it over to it's new home)

My school runs win me on all the puters and macs (macs from 4 years ago and pcs from 3).

It's the wirediest os ever and it always crashes.
  18. AtK SpAdE TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 1,846

My school runs 2000 as well, but i think the os is solid as a rock. Compared to 98 and ME.

And how do you have 2000 on a Mac?

Nothing like working in tech support and tell the customer to reboot the computer and they come back in half a second they say nothing is happening. You have them press and hold the button in to see if they can get the computer to go off. They say that it does. Have them turn it back on only to have them say that it just came back to the same screen. It is then you realise they are just turning their monitor on and off not their computer.
