  1. Hello, I have a problem with my TSSTCorp TS-H552D dvd-Rw. It works, but not fully. It only recognizes burned DVD movies, but not DVD movies from the store. I've had it play a DVD movie once, by putting the movie in the drive, and then putting the computer on standby and starting it again, but now that won't even work anymore. I have no idea where the problem is. I can burn DVDs with this drive and it will play them... any help would be great! thanks!

no, first install. it didnt work before, or after installing it. it reads any cd's just fine, dvds.. but not movies. it seems that certain movies can play.. some times. but it's very strange.

If you go to control panel -> device manager -> DVD/CD-ROM Drives

Does your drive show exactly as it is supposed to?

Right click on it and select properties

Under drivers tab what version driver does it show

Edit: just looked up your firmware is your computer a Gateway

yes, as far as i know. it sais the device is working properly. it is the dvd-rw drive that came with the computer, though, i would not know if anything is out of the ordinary.

    Hmm...

This may be an EXTREMELY far stretch (or even completely irrelevant), but you may want to check the DVD Region* setting for your DVD-ROM. To do so, do the following:

    1. Right Click My Computer
    2. Click on Manage
    3. Click Device Manager
    4. Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives section
    5. Right Click on the name of your DVD-ROM
    6. Select Properties
    7. Click the DVD Region tab
    8. Set** the desired Region

    * DVD-ROMs should play DVD's without any problems right out of the box with the default Region Setting (no selection). So long as the correct drivers/decoders are installed on the PC. The "Current Region" says, "Not Selected" on my PC, so just be sure it's not set to something weird.

** There is a limit to how many times you can change the Region Code for your DVD-ROM. After reaching that limit, you no longer change it ever again. So be careful when changing it.

Again, this may be of absolutely no help in this case. However, when troubleshooting it never hurts to cover everything. :)

    Good luck!

Did you ever try talking to emachines about this problem? I am curious as to what they would say about it.
