I just bought a laptop off of ebay and the dvd drive does not regognize cds in it. It tells me that they are un formatted and they must be formatted. I know the cds work because i use them in my pc all the time. Any ideas? I already re installed the drivers.

This is a common hardware issue and I'd consider returning it (if possible).

Otherwise, there are few explainations for it.

You bought a laptop from eBay w/ a "defective" disc drive and you were able to return just the disc drive O_O?

yes, i bought from a company called csr and they have a 30 warranty on hardware for all of their refurbished laptops.
